Capacity assessments – what makes a good one? How to instruct the assessor
Course content
In order to understand what makes a good assessment and how to instruct an assessor you first have to understand the actual structure of an assessment. This goes beyond the framework as outlined in the MCA.
In this session, we will explore the pre, during and post phases of the assessment process which are vital to ensuring a good assessment and the correct outcome for your client. You will be introduced to concepts such as the DECIDE Pyramid, the SEEKS Toolkit, the CRAFT model and the AVC (Assessment Validation Cycle) as well as how assessors seek to set the threshold of understanding and determine the appropriate question set for their assessments.
By understanding the above you will then be able to ensure the information you provide to the assessor is structured in a way that is easily applied to the assessment process, ensuring nothing is missed. It will also enhance your ability to critically appraise reports that you receive and provide feedback to assessors in a structure that they should understand.
